We are thrilled to announce the launch of the STARTS4AFRICA Open Call for Artists, a pioneering initiative that will allow artists to address regional challenges around Food and Water, Digital Mapping and Speculative Landscapes, Culture and Coding, Wearable Technology and Smart Textile, Immersive Storytelling, Rethinking Sustainable Construction, and Speculative Urbanism.

Through 6-month residencies, STARTS4AFRICA will enhance art-driven innovation in four African countries: Senegal, Ghana, Tanzania, and Nigeria.

Who can apply?

STARTS4AFRICA calls for proposals from an individual artist or a collective of artists, with previous experience:

  • nationals of the countries covered by STARTS4AFRICA (DR Congo, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, and Tanzania) or permanent residents in any country in Sub-Saharan Africa; or,
  • artistic teams mixing artists from Europe and from Sub-Saharan African countries.

Selected Artists will benefit from up to € 35.000 for the residency!

Besides that you will get access to resources/facilities of the Research Host Institution, participation in an individualised Mentoring Programme, access to the Europe-wide S+T+ARTS Network, visibility through high-impact communication activities to promote artistic output and its innovation spillovers, and many other perks.

The Consortium which PiNA is part of, along with the Residency Host Institutions, will be hosting a live-streamed How-to-Apply session, presenting the 8 Challenges, and providing insights on the application process, requirements, and submission.
